Setting up Hauptwerk VSTi

Now we will setup Hauptwerk VSTi. Double click on the little round midi connector of track 4 to open the Hauptwerk VSTi window.

Hauptwerk opens in a window. Once an organ loaded, the window will take the full screen. Now we need to set up our audio.

We will need to define our audio channels and outputs the same way we did it in Hauptwerk stand-alone. The only different is that instead of assigning audio channels from our audio card, we will assign VST channels instead. We will keep it simple for the moment, the idea being to be able to add reverb to a dry sample. As you get the hang of this process, you may want to try adding more channels and reverb channels.

So lets define our outputs. GENERAL SETTING | AUDIO OUTPUT. Assign VST 01/02 (L) for the Device chan 1 (L) and VST 01/02 (R) for the Device chan 2 (R). Don't bother with the other channels that you see in that screen, those channels are specific to my personal setup.

In GENERAL SETTINGS | AUDIO OUTPUT GROUPS, the channel you just defined should be assigned to Main Output.

Minimize HW's window and let's set the input-output in Sonar:

Back into Hw.... now load and organ. If you are unlucky, you will get the dreaded ERR:5119. If this is the case, exit Sonar and start a new project from scratch (note that global and audio setup part remains, and also the HW audio setup remains. You don't need to do it again, all you need to do is create a new project and add the HW track.) For more information about that problem, you can read this thread on Crumhorn-labs forum.

If you were lucky and didn't get the ERR:5119, the organ is loaded. Try playing a few test notes. If it sounds like a monster from Mars, minimize the Hauptwerk Window, click on the little GREEN ICON to turn it off, wait a few seconds and click on it again. This should have solved the problem.

If the organ sounds OK, then you are all done. All you have to do now is setup Pristine Space.
